Reporting of a trial is covered by absolute privilege. Opinion isn’t. In the absence of any evidence I am not going to speculate on the veracity of her twaddle other than to say that the hoaxers’ understanding of the law is so flawed as to be either wilful ignorance, which is no defence, or outright contempt.

As someone who has been involved in libel proceedings, these idiots do not realise that appending “for entertainment only” or “allegedly” in any publication has no actual bearing on the application of the law. I have only ever employed those phrases when absolutely sure that my defense of satire or parody has been 100% bullet proof.
