Alex Salmond, the former Scottish first minister, is facing further criticism for his controversial TV show for the Kremlin-backed broadcaster RT, after the publication of “humiliatingly low” viewing figures.

The first edition of The Alex Salmond Show broadcast last November was watched by 16,000 people, according to figures compiled by the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (Barb).

However, Barb figures for August 30 — after details emerged of allegations of sexual harassment which Salmond denies — suggest it was viewed by only 4,000 people.

Salmond has faced pressure this month for continuing to make the show, despite evidence linking Russia to the poisonings of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, in Salisbury.
