Sick paedophile snared with thousands of vile images of children avoids jail
A lying paedophile snared with a huge cache of vile images and videos of tots being sexually abused has narrowly avoided jail.
sheriff tore a strip off pervert Douglas Gallacher who was caught with
almost 3,000 photos and clips of extreme child pornography after a tip
off from the police public protection unit.
28, appeared for sentence at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday where
Sheriff Seith Ireland warned him his “horrible crime” was “borderline,”
and if weren’t his first conviction, he would have been in prison for
for a “substantial period of time.”
Gallacher had used secretive
software to amass the collection of offensive material on two external
hard disks and a laptop computer in his bedroom at the property at
Bargarron Drive, in the town’s Gallowhill area.
And when cops
busted him at the address he shares with his parents and grandmother
last November, the pervert claimed: “I am the one most at risk from
downloading stuff like this because I download movies and I don’t what
else is coming with it.”

pleaded guilty to offences of downloading and storing the vile stash of
1,956 still images and 702 “moving images” in July and was released on
bail in preparation of a Criminal Justice Social Work Report prior to
being handed his punishment.
Defence agent Chris McKenna told the
court that Gallacher had even attempted to deny the offences at his
first interview with social workers.
He said: “At his first
meeting with social workers, he simply denied the offence, and clearly
that is not the case. At the second meeting he told the truth and he
fully accepts his responsibilty for the offence.
“In pleas of
guilty to this kind offence, the accused will try to minimise their role
and deny the offence because of the shame involved. In a crime of this
nature it is difficult for him to come to terms with what he has done.
“However, he did acknowledge his crime at the second meeting.”
lawyer said Gallacher was still living at home with his parents and
grandmother, and refusing to socialise or mix with folk his own age.
McKenna added: “He is 28, and lives a reclusive life with no structured
activities. He has never had a relationship, has no friends, and he was
bullied at school. He also suffers from health problems and still lives
with his parents and grandmother.
“He recognises this is a very
serious matter, and as he has no previous convictions, the public
interest may be better served by the court ordering him treatment to
cure his behaviour rather than handing him a custodial sentence.”

Sheriff Ireland told Gallacher he came within inches of sending him to jail.
said: “The cases are very concerning to the courts. The courts must
reflect the wider public interest to record an appropriate outcome. Your
case is borderline between a substantial sentence of imprisonment and
an imposition of an alternative to custody.
“With regard to that
by a narrow judgement, I judge the public better protected by your being
treated for this behaviour in viewing these images.”
Gallacher subject to a court order of three years where he will report
to the Pathways Project, involving people convicted of sexual offences,
for treatment for his deviancy.
