Subject: MELANIE SHAW AND POLITICAL SILENCE
GRAHAM BRADY MP
cc Chairman of Altrincham and Sale West Conservative Association
Good morning Graham,
The situation regarding political prisoner, Melanie Shaw, is one that has caused me a significant degree of revulsion.
The reason is simple ; the reports that I have received about the manner in which Melanie is being treated flout every standard of common decency that I was brought up to believe (over the past 67 years), are “British values”.
My father, who was a staunch supporter of the Conservative Party, would turn in his grave if he knew what I now know about the underbelly of the Party.
Of particular concern to me is the lack of transparency of politicians, whose abject failure to reply to my correspondence, smacks of ignorance and normal common courtesy. It certainly does not dispel my concerns; rather it indicates to me that they have a collective agenda; something to hide.
My correspondence has been polite. I have asked them to verify or deny the situation concerning what is reported as the unlawful treatment of Melanie Shaw. Since that treatment is being reported as breaching Prison Service Orders, International Law and Melanie Shaw’s basic Human Rights, then it is incumbent on these public servants, who have responsibility for her welfare to be answerable to civil questions.
Since this lack of any response and a total lack of transparency is bringing the Government generally and the Conservative Party in particular, into disrepute, I have decided that you should be made aware of my concerns.
The following is a list of political people to whom I have written during the past 12 months :
Amber Rudd (Home Secretary), Samuel Gyimah (Secretary of State for Prisons), Peter Clarke (Chief Inspector of Prisons) and Mahala McGuffie (Prison Governor HMP Styal), The only person to respond was Peter Clarke, whose lame excuse was that he could not intervene in any specific case !
It is interesting that not one of them has denied the veracity of the information. This indicates that it is true and that they are aware of what is being metered out to Melanie Shaw in Britain today. This inhuman, unlawful and unacceptable torture being practiced here in the UK is in effect being done in my name and as an Englishman I object in the strongest possible terms.
Perhaps, as Chairman of the Conservative Private Members’ Committee, you would be kind enough to inform party members that the British public demand and expect politicians and those appointed by them to uphold the values which the people of this Country have fought for and have enshrined in Law.
I trust that I will hear from you in due course.
