Subject: Concern regarding recent treatment of remand prisoner Melanie Shaw at HMP Peterborough [heur]
Dear Mr Hemming,
I wish to draw attention to the plight of Melanie Shaw. a vulnerable child abuse witness, who has been held on remand at HMP Peterborough Prison.
She has been released on bail and I would ask you to look at the photographs, supplied by the UK Column, showing the absolutely appalling state that this woman was in on her release last week. She stands trial in Nottingham on 28th October for what appears to be a case with no evidence.
The lack of treatment to her leg ulcer whilst held at HMP Peterborough is clearly a major cause for concern.
This BBC article shows that there have been previous apparent failures by Sodexo at HMP Peterborough. It would be interesting to ask Chris Grayling, the present Justice Secretary, if he considers the treatment of Melanie Shaw also to be “wholly unacceptable”.
The 2 people who are responsible are Mike Conway, Director of UK Operations at Sodexo,http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/mike-conway/63/605/353
and Nick Leader, the Director of HMP Peterborough.http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/nick-leader/9a/374/987
Hopefully you can bring this matter to the attention of the public.
