A mum wants death penalty for a monster who raped her daughter leaving her so traumatised she’s unable to speak a year later
The dad-of-three raped four women in a week and later told police: “They should be grateful”
Gizar Ziyangareev, 39, has been jailed for 23 years for his appalling
crimes in the Russian city of Ufa – one of the longest sentences ever
handed down for a sex crime in the country.
The serial rapist, a construction worker, had only been free from
prison after serving five years for raping a neighbour and an underage
girl when he began attacking woman once again.
He robbed and assaulted one victim as she was walking home from work,
first with a knife and his fists before dragging her into bushes and
“raping her with a broken tree branch”, according to local media.
The 31-year-old woman suffered a heart attack and went into a coma.
Almost a year later, she remains in hospital so traumatised she is unable to speak or move.
Senior detective Alexander Guryev said: “This crime deeply shocked us with its cruelty.
“We have never come across anything similar.”
After the attack, top investigators suspended all their other cases
to catch “maniac” Ziyangareev who was seen on CCTV near the crime scene
with his victim’s computer and phone.
He later discarded the laptop and mobile, keeping around £745 in cash which she had on her.
He was detained ten days later after police examined the profiles of 107 known rapists.
The victim’s mother said Ziyangareev deserves the death penalty.
“I did not go to the trial because I think my daughter needs me here
and I do not want to waste my energy on this inhuman monster,” she said.
“Such people must either be completely isolated from society, or I ask to return the death penalty.
“My pain is too severe to go and see the person who has wrecked the life of my girl.
“I cannot afford negative emotions, I have to be strong.
“The Lord twice saved my daughter – she survived that terrible day, and then came through the coma and heart attack.
“Every day I pray that she will be the same happy person she used to be, that she can smile and enjoy life. ”
“I hope we will find a doctor who can help us.
“My daughter is alive, that is the main thing.
“We sleep, wake up in the morning, listen to music but I want her to be able to live.”
But a friend of the victim complained the 23-year sentence was too short.
“This attacker is not a human, he’s a monster,” she said.
“I just cannot understand how the court could give such a lenient term.
“[The victim] will never get up, she will never speak… she has no future because of what he did.
“And he will get out of jail one day and continue to rape.”
Another friend said: “[The victim] is very weak.
“The doctors cannot find the right nutrition to help her build up her strength.
“She weights now just 30 kilograms, when her height is 170 centimetres.”
Ziyangareev’s other victim during his week-long raping spree was aged
42, but details of his conviction for raping and robbing three other
women in September 2015, and two further similar cases in 2009 and 2010,
have not been released.
A police source said: “Ziyangareev never had problems with women, in fact he had many lovers.
“He had been married in the past and has two daughters and a son.
“He easily got acquainted with women and they did not feel anything wrong with him.”
The serial rapist confessed to his crimes but did not repent, said police.
“He told police he did nothing bad to these women and they should be grateful to him,” reported Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper
