Work begins to demolish April killer’s ‘house of evil’
Bridger was sentenced to a whole-life term last year for killing the five-year-old from Machynlleth. He is believed to have dismembered her body at the house in Ceinws, Powys.
Her remains have never been found. Bridger claimed he knocked her over and forgot where he put her body.
Demolition will begin next Monday.
Scaffolding has been put up around the house and roof tiles are being removed.
The Welsh government bought the property from the owner and promised to demolish it in line with April’s parents’ request.
Councillor Michael Williams told BBC Wales: “People are most appreciative of the Welsh government carrying out that which they’d promised.
“It’ll be a huge relief for [April’s parents] Coral and Paul and the rest of the April Jones’s family and the people living in the village of Ceinws who have to pass that property all the time, bringing back the memories of, as we’re given to understand, the evil acts that took place there.
“The people who live in Machynlleth will be relieved.
“It is the house of evil and the sooner it disappears, the better.”
