I note with concern your appointment of Mr Kenny MacAskill to the petitions committee. Mr MacAskill has a track record of obstruction of the work of the committee, of protecting vested interests and of failure to think with any vision or statesmanship when considering challenges to the legal establishment of which he forms a small part.
In the whole of the Scottish political world there is hardly a man or a woman with less credibility or fewer qualifications for a post on the petitions committee.
Attached is a recording of Mr Macaskills comments to me when I attempted to raise an uncomfortable (for him) issue of the failure of the Scottish Legal establishment to provide justice for Hollie Greig and, had I been allowed to continue, the contrast with their treatment of wrongdoing by legal establishment figures: His response was to slander a campaigner for Ms Greig, then on remand in HMP Perth for daring to speak out on this case. Thus, far from supporting the underdog, and the cause of justice against might, Mr MacAskill showed himself to be the shill of the vested interest.
Unless you wish the petitions committee to sink to the depths of public disdain that Mr MacAskill has visited on the justice secretary position I suggest you think again about this appointment. Just read the public comments below Peter Cherbi’s bloghttp://petercherbi.blogspot.co.uk/, you can hear the hoots of derision already.
