The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has already identified 60 officers as part of a major investigation into the scandal, and 100 others are in their sights.

The watchdog is examining whether or not disciplinary or even legal action should be brought against police officers who are accused of ignoring victims’ claims that they were being sexually trafficked and abused.

The revelations came as a solicitor representing the victims said only a fraction of those abused have come forward.

Investigators are ramping up their probe a year on from the publication of the explosive Jay Report, which uncovered the shocking scale of child rape, trafficking and grooming going on in the South Yorkshire town.

More than 1,400 children were sexually exploited by gangs of mainly Asian males in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

The report was scathing about the conduct of police and council officials, who routinely ignored the industrial scale of abuse, instead treating the victims as troublesome teenagers.

The IPCC has received 47 referrals from South Yorkshire Police since the publication of the report, involving more than 100 allegations of misconduct.

A spokeswoman said: “Analysis of all the referrals has so far identified more than 60 officers.

“Further assessments are being carried out to establish the specific allegations against these individuals to determine what further actions are needed. Work is ongoing to identify more than 100 officers who are referenced in the referrals but are unnamed.”

The Jay Report was commissioned by embattled Rotherham Council after horrific details of the high profile scandal came to light.

Carried out by professor Alexis Jay, it shocked Britain by unearthing the sheer scale of offending and the horrific details it included of what had happened to girls as young as 11.

Prof Jay said at the time she had found “utterly appalling” examples of “children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness brutally-violent rapes and threatened they would be next if they told anyone”.

She said: “They were raped by multiple perpetrators, trafficked to other towns and cities in the north of England, abducted, beaten and intimidated.”

Police have been strongly criticised for their failings over the scandal

The failings of the authorities to protect the children was so great that South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Shaun Wright, was forced to resign and Rotherham Council was brought under Government control.

David Greenwood, a solicitor representing 58 of the women who were abused said what has come to light so far may only be the tip of the iceberg.

He believes fewer than 100 of the girls involved in the sexual abuse have engaged with authorities out of a victim tally of potentially thousands.

Many victims still do not trust the authorities, he added, and will only come forward if an independent agency is brought in to carry out the investigation.

  1. The police most definitely tuck part in this crime an also social services we demand that everyone who turned.a blind eye involved in anyway or form be punished .

      1. most of these kids were in the ‘care’ of social services – or at care centres – homes…….where staff KNEW that girls were being groomed, so did police…but for fear of being called ‘racist’ did nothing……….and the EU floods us with more rapists engineers and doctors ??

      2. Was there a reason why the police ignored so many claims about the the same people.
Is there an organisation I can join to help fight this.

      3. Parents & other family members were threatened by the gangs, they were told their family would be killed & that they would never see their kids again if did anything like speak to authorities!

    1. Social services will say the same old thing, we will learn from the mistakes made! I am 73 years old and this has been the script for years, nothing ever changes. As for the police what can you expect over 900 serving officers have criminal records, 30% + serving officers are LGBT moral standards are rock bottom and we should all be ashamed.

  3. The BNP new about this about 12-14 years ago, told the police,so the police arrested the BMP members for being Racist ,the BMP even had videos of some of the men that were doing it,and on one of the videos, the driver of the car smiled,as if to say, there’s nothing you can do!
What sort of country are we living in?its still going on,ask Tom Robinson!

  4. Social Services should be held responsible as should the police there is a certain social worker in particular won’t name them but bet they did sod all to help

  5. Social Services should be held responsible as should the police there is a certain social worker in particular won’t name them but bet they did sod all to help.

  6. is there a list of names for ALL these police officers ,and social workers names,or even judges, please reply .

  7. Go after the perpetrators and they’re called racist. They are encouraged to turn a blind eye to the crimes of immigrants! Can’t win either way.

  8. Rotherham council are evil and the most corrupt town on the planet. They took 2 children from there mother because the children father had a family member on the council. They took them based on no evidence the family attaked this Young women repeatedly and the police for nothing. When in court they even had connection to the solicitor she used and evidence was removed.

  9. Read my post Above! i am a Tommy Robinson fan,He is trying to stop all this,And needs all our support! but just post as I do on face book, and keep on until all these dirty bastards are found and locked UP!

    1. They should be held to account. If it was Joe public they would be found guilty for burying evidence and turning a blind eye. It’s joint enterprise. They are there to protect not sit back and let this happen. So much deep rooted corruption in every force.

  10. Please explain why we are calling them Asian when most of these animals were Pakistan Muslims . Let’s not tell half truth here !

  11. I agree wholeheartedly these so called officials and council and police should be investigated for corruption and held responsible
For not arresting.jailing and deporting these Asian Pakistani
    Muslims all around Britain.
Not just Rotherham. So called taxis roam around our city Manchester all week from Leeds.Birmingham.Woolverhampton etc. Are they all legal. Who is investigating this …no one I suppose.

  12. Speaking to Sammy Woodhouse I asked the question in all of this how much help from Children in Need have you received, Her answer was none, the charity has not helped one single kid in all this abuse never ever give money to this bunch of London WANKERS. As for SYP don’t rock the boat keep stum im only 3 years away from my pension.
